No sports knowledge is required, and each volunteer will receive a free T-shirt along with a rewarding experience!

HEALTHY ATHLETES

The mission of the screenings developed by Special Olympics Inc., is to improve, through better health and fitness, each athlete’s ability to train and compete in Special Olympics. The screenings will show if referral care is needed.  All screenings are FREE! So it is important that the athletes visit the (5) disciplines offered. The screenings are led by medical volunteers from across Missouri, so we want to show our appreciation by participating and keeping them busy!

FUNFITNESS: A physical therapy screening program that is designed to assess and improve physical strength, flexibility, balance and aerobic fitness, educate athletes and parents on the importance of becoming and staying physically fit. Thanks to the Missouri Physical Therapy Association.

SPECIAL SMILES:  Dentists and hygienists provide one-on-one instruction on proper tooth brushing techniques, an oral health screening, and information on the value of nutrition in maintaining good oral health.  Athletes receive a FREE toothbrush & other dental hygiene items. Thanks to the Missouri Dental Association, Jordan Valley Community Health Center & The Smile Spot.

FIT FEET: Podiatrists evaluate ankles, feet, lower extremity biomechanics and proper shoe and sock gear.  Thanks to Dr. Scott Foster and Dr. Terry Sanders with Columbia Podiatry.

HEALTH PROMOTION: A health check, which includes a body mass measurement and bone density test to detect osteoporosis. Athletes and Coaches learn how to make healthy choices and also includes tobacco cessation and sun safety.

HEALTHY HEARING:  Athletes are screened to detect any hearing problems.  Conducted by trained audiologists, this screening will alert the athlete to any hearing loss. Thanks to Dr. Letitia White, PH.D, CCC-A & Missouri State University Audiology Department.

IT’S EASY:  REGISTER & VISIT ALL (5) DISCIPLINES, GET CARD PUNCHED & DROP IN BOX AT HEALTHY ATHLETES MAIN TABLE FOR A CHANCE TO WIN PRIZES!

SPONSORSHIPS:

If you're interested in helping out the State Summer Games in a different fashion than just volunteering, maybe a sponsorship is what you're looking for! Look over the different sponsorship levels and contact Carol Griffin if you have any questions.
