As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for another thrilling Super Bowl appearance, Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) is taking a moment to celebrate the incredible bond between the organization and the reigning AFC champions. The Chiefs have long been a champion for inclusivity, using their platform to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities and promote a culture of acceptance and opportunity.

The Chiefs’ support for SOMO has been evident through numerous initiatives, from game-day experiences to community outreach programs. Defensive end George Karlaftis recently showcased his commitment to inclusion through the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign. He partnered with SOMO athletes to design custom cleats that highlight the power of sports in breaking barriers. The cleats, worn during the Chiefs’ Week 13 game, served as a national symbol of unity and empowerment.

Beyond individual efforts, the entire Chiefs organization has embraced SOMO athletes, providing them with extraordinary opportunities. In the 2023 NFL Draft, SOMO athlete Richard Scott and Special Olympics Kansas athlete Josh Alters were invited to co-announce a draft pick, shining a national spotlight on the abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

One of the most impactful demonstrations of the Chiefs’ commitment is the annual “Evening with Andy Reid” fundraiser. This special event, hosted by the legendary head coach, has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for SOMO athletes. The most recent gathering at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium welcomed over 370 guests and raised an impressive $385,000. The night featured inspiring stories, interactive Q&A sessions with SOMO athletes, and appearances by Chiefs players, reinforcing the message of inclusion for everyone.

The Chiefs’ dedication extends beyond fundraising. Chiefs Cheerleaders have engaged with SOMO’s Cheer and Dance teams, creating unforgettable moments of camaraderie and shared passion for the sport.

As Kansas City rallies behind the Chiefs in their pursuit of another Super Bowl victory, SOMO proudly stands alongside them, grateful for their unwavering support. The Chiefs’ efforts continue to inspire and empower SOMO athletes, proving that sports have the power to unite communities and break down barriers.

With the world watching, this Super Bowl is not just a game—it’s another opportunity to highlight the impact of inclusion and the shared spirit of champions, on and off the field. Special Olympics Missouri is proud to have the Kansas City Chiefs as true allies in the mission to make sports accessible to all.

GO CHIEFS!!!
