Our first-ever Strikers for SOMO Bowling Tournament was held on Saturday at Strikers Bowling Lanes in Jefferson City. This was a Unified event, pairing SOMO athletes with intellectual disabilities and members of the community as teammates. This Unified approach helps create an environment of acceptance and inclusion. This event provided a unique opportunity to raise awareness of Special Olympics Missouri, show the abilities of our athletes and share our message of unity and inclusion through the sport of bowling.
Special Olympics Missouri Slam – Saturday, Oct. 15
Louisiana High School hosted a wrestling event to benefit Special Olympics Missouri. There were a handful of SOMO athletes on hand for the event. It was a great event spearheaded by officer Christopher Powell of the NECC (NE Correctional Center) in Bowling Green. The proceeds from the event will go to SOMO.
There were some star wrestlers on hand: Champions Matt Hughes, Dan “The Beast” Severn and Hollywood actor Bishop Stevens. Three of our SOMO had a chance to go on stage and play tug-o-war against some of the wrestlers.
Thank you to NECC Correctional Officer Chris Powell and his fundraising committee for their great support of SOMO and our athletes!
