SOMO to award KRCG-TV with Eunice Kennedy Shriver Award of Excellence
JEFFERSON CITY – Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) surprised KRCG-TV’s longtime chief meteorologist Zach Paul with some big news during the State Outdoor Games’ Opening Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 13 at Binder Sports Complex. KRCG-TV has won this year’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver Award of Excellence.
While Zach was emceeing the program, SOMO Sr. Director of Community Development Crystal Schuster made the announcement to the crowd. She then gave Zach a hug and handed him his formal invitation.
“Wow, what a surprise,” Zach said. “It’s a good thing they gave me a script to stick to.”
Since 2002, KRCG-TV has provided more than $300,000 worth of in-kind promotions to SOMO. They consistently sponsor the State Outdoor Games and Lake of the Ozarks Polar Plunge. SOMO can always count on KRCG-TV to cover its events as well.
As for Zach Paul – Since 2015, he has personally raised nearly $150,000 for SOMO as a super plunger.
KRCG-TV will be officially awarded the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Award of Excellence at SOMO’s upcoming Awards Banquet on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Training for Life Campus.
The Eunice Kennedy Shriver Award of Excellence was implemented by the SOMO Board of Directors in 1988. This award is deemed the highest honor the board bestows on an individual or organization for years of service and impact on SOMO.
