Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from September 24-30, 2024!

Concordia Local Bowling Tournament: Thursday, September 26

Great job to all the athletes that participated in the Concordia Local Bowling Tournament on September 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Concordia Bowl!

KC Metro 3v3 Basketball League: Thursday, September 26

Last week was the last occurrence of our September KC Metro 3v3 Basketball League program! This league was intended to give KC 3v3 Basketball Teams (both Regulation and Unified) additional opportunities to practice and compete. It took place on Thursday nights and September at the Kansas City Police Department South Patrol Station Gym. Amazing job to all the athletes who participated in this league!

2024 Fall ALPs Weekend: Friday, September 27
SOMO’s Fall Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs), held from September 27-29, was a great success with 31 athletes in attendance! ALPs provides athletes with the opportunity to pursue higher education through a variety of majors tailored to their learning styles and goals. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event possible and helped support our athletes’ growth and development!

2024 KCMO Fall YAP: Friday, September 27

This past week was the end of our free 4-week program designed for kids with and without intellectual disabilities, ages 2-7. Young Athletes introduces sports skills like running, kicking, throwing, and jumping. The program offers families, caregivers, and people in the community the chance to share the joy of sports with all children. This 4-week program occurred on September 6, September 13, September 20, and September 27. Thank you to everyone who made this program possible!

Truckin’ 4 Special Olympics: Saturday, September 28

The first Annual Truckin’ 4 Special Olympics event, hosted by Springfield Raceway in partnership with 4 State Trucks, was an exciting evening filled with activities. Attendees enjoyed a Dirt Car Race, BOMBr/Enduro race, a Truck Show, and the debut of Semi Truck Drags on the ¼ mile clay oval. Special guest Sean Bailey, portraying Buford T. Justice from “Smokey and the Bandit,” made an appearance. The event also featured a 50/50 raffle that benefited local Special Olympics Missouri programs.
