Strive for Strength Program

The Strive for Strength workout program continued at the Training for Life Campus this week. Athletes had the opportunity to focus on their health while having fun! Check out these updates on our social media from this week’s program!

KC Unified Flag Football Intramural with UMKC: Tuesday, October 1

The KC Unified Flag Football Intramural League with UMKC continued this week on Tuesday evening and will continue to run until October 8 at the UMKC Campus Recreation Center. This event brings together athletes of all abilities for friendly competition. A special thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a success!

Carrollton High School Unified Track Meet: Wednesday, October 2

The Carrollton High School Unified Track Meet took place on October 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Amazing job to all the athletes who participated!

Cass County Sheriff’s Auxiliary Dinner & Rodeo: Friday, October 4

SOMO partnered for another year with the Cass County Sheriff Department and Auxiliary for their annual rodeo at the Harrisonville North Park Rodeo Grounds! The evening included dinner followed by the rodeo at 8:00 pm. Thank you to everyone who attended! The event raised funds to support SOMO’s KC Metro athletes and programs.

Angling for Athletes – Bass Fishing Tournament: Saturday, October 5
SOMO hosted its annual Angling for Athletes Bass Fishing Tournament at Bull Shoals Lake, Theodosia Marina, kicking off at 7:00 am and running until 3:00 pm. The 9th year of this event is officially in the books! A huge thank you to all of our anglers and volunteers who participated in support of SOMO athletes and programs.

Congrats to the big winners, Gary Rowland and Paul Brunson, who landed 16.00 lbs and took home big bass honors with a 5.28 lb catch! They won $1,000 in cash and $500 in Bass Pro Gift Cards. Wyatt and Clint Marler claimed 2nd place with 14.25 lbs, and Jake Christenson and Nick Lawler rounded out the top 3 with 12.51 lbs. Brayden Roberts earned Junior Big Bass honors, winning a tackle prize package courtesy of Theodosia Marina Resort.

Athlete Registration Day – SW Area: Saturday, October 5

We had an amazing Athlete Registration Day at our Southwest Area office! So many new athletes joined SOMO, and we’re excited to see everyone at upcoming events. If you’re one of our winners, your prizes are available at our office or can be brought to your next bowling tournament. Thanks to everyone who stopped by for one-on-one registration help, free physicals, and additional resources!

Picture Me Perfect Art Crawl: Sunday, October 6

Special Olympics Missouri and Southeast Enterprises hosted the 3rd annual Picture Me Perfect Art Crawl in Brookside! SOMO athletes and Southeast Enterprises associates showcased their incredible artwork, created throughout the year, in an auction that raised funds for both organizations. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our talented artists, and special thanks to our partners, including the Brooksider and The Roasterie!
