SOMO Sum ups Nov. 23rd- Nov.29th

Southwest Area – Southwest Area hosted athletes from Carthage Intermediate School, Steadly Elementary School, Columbian Elementary School, Carthage 6th Grade Center, Carthage Junior High, Carthage High School and Webb City Junior High – all at G3 Entertainment in Carthage, MO. We had an absolute blast today! Special shout out to Kellen from Carthage High School for performing the National Anthem and Armani from Webb City Junior High for leading the Athlete Oath. We want to thank all the amazing volunteers that came out today! Thank you also to the coaches, chaperones, Law Enforcement Officers, and the staff at G3 for all the help as well! We can’t do this without all of you! Southwest Area also hosted athletes from Southwest R5 Schools, Nevada Schools, Monett Schools, and Avila Schools at G3 Entertainment in Carthage, MO! We had an amazing turn out, lots of fun and made some awesome memories! Special Shout out to Southwest R5 Schools for providing our National Anthem singers today, and Alyssa Dockery from Monett for leading the Athlete Oath! Once again thank you to our volunteers from the Carthage Community, our Law Enforcement Officers who helped with awards, all of our coaches and chaperones, and the wonderful staff at G3 Entertainment for all their help!

Central Area – We had a busy week last week! On Thursday, we hosted our 2nd Annual SWISH for SOMO fundraiser. JCPD and the JC Chamber Young Professionals competed in a Unified Basketball Tournament. The JC Chamber Young Professionals took home the trophy this year! On Friday, we had the opportunity to support 2025 Central Area Athlete of the Year, Kenlee Lewis at the Epilepsy Foundation of Missouri and Kansas Beat the Odds Gala. Kenlee presented an amazing speech, and we had a great time

Statewide – This past Saturday we held our annual Special Olympics Award Banquet in Jefferson City at the Training for Life Campus to recognize SOMO employes, families, volunteers and especially our amazing athletes for all they do to make sure our athletes feel seen, heard, loved and prepare them to compete in their sports to the best of their abilities. Congratulations to all the Area winners! We also inducted three amazing individuals into the Special Olympics Hall of Fame. Congratulations to athlete Jared Niemeyer, Coach Dianna Neihouse, and Coach and ALPs teacher Linda Tyler for being inducted into the Hall of Fame and for the incredible impact you make in Special Olympics Missouri! Also, congratulations to Rusty Drewing Automotive as the winner of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Award. We are so thankful for all the SOMO employees, Coaches, Volunteers, Unified Partners, Law Enforcement Officers, Doctors and especially the athletes who show up for our athletes’ day in and day out!
