Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from May 16-22, 2023!

Central Area Movie Night- Tuesday, May 16

We started the week with a movie night at The Crossing! It was a night of popcorn and fun in partnership with Love Coffee.

St. Joseph Area Sports of Hall of Fame Class Announcement- Wednesday, May 17

On Wednesday it was announced that Jane Wood, long-time SOMO athlete from the North Area, has been selected to be inducted into the St. Joseph Area Sports of Hall of Fame with the 2023 class!

Young Athlete Program- Wednesday, May 17

Special Olympics Young Athletes is an early childhood play program for children with and without intellectual disabilities, ages two to seven. Young Athletes introduces basic sport skills, like running, kicking and throwing. Young Athletes offers families, teachers, caregivers and community members the chance to share the joy of sports with all children.

Dunkin’ Cop on a Rooftop- Friday, May 19

On Friday, May 19, from 5 a.m. until noon at participating Dunkin’ locations, representatives from the Law Enforcement Torch Run for SOMO collected money that goes directly to support programming for SOMO athletes across the state. Thank you so much to everyone who came out and supported our athletes and a big thank you to the Law Enforcement Officers for their continued support!

Wright City Local Track Meet- Friday, May 19

Wright City High School hosted this track meet last Friday! After being moved to this date due to rain, our athletes were ready to showcase their skills! Amazing job to all the athletes that competed!

Light Up Missouri Balloon and Drone Light Show- Saturday, May 20

SOMO athlete and employee Derek Sandbothe had a chance to go up in a hot air balloon at the Light Up Missouri Balloon and Drone Light Show this past Saturday in Columbia! Several of our athletes also volunteered at the event.

Southeast Area Pickleball Clinic- Saturday, May 20

We had about 14 athletes participate in our clinic this past Saturday! Thank you to the clinicians from our Parks and Rec Pickleball group for their help with this clinic!
