Train for Life Fitness Program
SOMO Train 4 Life athletes recently received new workout gear as they progressed through their fitness journey. In Cycle 1, 63 athletes from across Missouri committed to 12 weeks of training focused on improving their health and strength. During the State Indoor Games, the health team recognized participants by distributing workout shirts to those who completed the program. Athletes also competed in fitness challenges, with standout performances in push-ups, squats, and med ball slams.
This program continues this week—check our calendar for upcoming sessions. Thank you to everyone supporting SOMO’s fitness initiatives and promoting a healthier community.
Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving”: Wednesday, March 26
On Wednesday, March 26, SOMO partnered with Jersey Mike’s Subs for the “Day of Giving.” Throughout March, customers had the option to round up their purchases or donate $1, $3, or $5 to support SOMO athletes. The campaign culminated on March 26, when local Jersey Mike’s restaurants donated 100 percent of the day’s sales—not just the profit—to SOMO. Jersey Mike’s owners and operators nationwide contributed all proceeds from in-store, online, and app purchases to over 200 charities, including hospitals, youth organizations, and food banks. Participating locations in Missouri included two in Columbia, one in Jefferson City, and one in Rolla. Thank you to everyone who participated in this fundraiser!
Lee’s Summit pep rally: Wednesday, March 26
One of our KC Unified Champion Schools, Pleasant Lea Middle School, hosted a sendoff showcase for their district’s Special Olympics athletes before State! All the athletes got announced and participated in a unified 3v3 or 5v5 game with partners from the high school! One boy and his unified partner showcased their basketball skills drills. They even had their unified cheer team out there who handed out sweatshirts that a community organization donated! They also had their volunteers, coaches, and parents in attendance. Shout-out to everyone who participated!
State Indoor Games: March 28-29
The 2024 SOMO State Indoor Games were a weekend to remember! Athletes from across the state gave it their all, showcasing their dedication and competitive spirit in basketball and bowling. A huge congratulations to all participants, especially our first-place finishers, who are now eligible to apply for Selection Camp! Stay tuned for more photos coming soon, which will be uploaded here on our Flickr.
