SOMO Sum Ups: July 10-17

Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from July 10-17.

Camp Jade – Special Learning Center visits TLC: July 11

Participants from the Special Learning Center summer camp, Camp Jade, visited the Training for Life campus in Jefferson City for a fun day of activities! Campers were able to play basketball, kickball and more!

KC Metro Pickleball Training Camp: July 11

Tuesday night, SOMO athletes in Kansas City had the chance to participate in the KC Metro Pickleball Training Camp at Chicken N Pickle! Special thank you to Chicken N Pickle North Kansas City for hosting this event.

SOMO Night at the Mustangs: July 14

Friday night was our Night at the Mustangs event with the St. Joseph Mustangs baseball team! SOMO athletes had the opportunity to escort Mustang players onto the field, sell raffle tickets, and World Games athlete, Charlie Phillips, was able to throw out the first pitch! Overall, the event raised over $2,000 for SOMO!

Cape West Rotary Duck Regatta: July 15

Saturday was the Cape West Rotary Duck Regatta at Cape Splash in Cape Girardeau! Participants could buy a duck for $5 and watch as it raced around the lazy river with prizes going to the winners. Proceeds from the event went to the Cape West Rotary Foundation and SOMO.

Knights of Columbus Missouri State Golf Tournament: July 15

Saturday, the Knights of Columbus hosted their annual Missouri State Golf Tournament at the Cape Girardeau Country Club! Proceeds from the event were donated to SOMO. We are lucky to have such amazing statewide partners!

State Pickleball Championship: July 15

Saturday was our first ever State Pickleball Championship held in Jefferson City! More than 80 athletes, coaches and Unified partners from across the state came to the Capital City for this inaugural event.

“I’m really excited to bring pickleball to SOMO,” said Luke Lamb, SOMO’s director of competition and statewide training. “I think it’s going to be a fast growing sport. It’s already extremely popular with our athletes.”

Southwest Area Softball Tournament: July 16

Sunday morning, Springfield hosted the Southwest Area Softball Tournament! Winners from the tournament will move on to our regional tournament. Great job to all the athletes who participated!
