SOMO Sum ups Jan. 11th – 16th
Central Area – On Saturday Jan. 3rd, local athletes from our Sister’s Supportive team joined Central Area Program Director, Tim Schuster, at the Mizzou Men’s Basketball game vs Florida to accept a check from the Special Teams for Special Olympics fundraiser. This fundraiser is made possible by Multipli Credit Union who partners with Mizzou Football each year to raise funds for local Special Olympics Athletes.
KC Metro Area – What an incredible week for our KC Metro community! Here’s what we accomplished together:
January 7 – Culver’s Scoopie Night
Thank you to everyone who came out to Culver’s in Lee’s Summit! Your support helped raise $783 for our KC Metro Clubs. Every scoop makes a difference! Next Scoopie Night is January 14.
January 8 – 2nd Annual Basketball Olympics
Smithville High School hosted an unforgettable day of basketball fun! Students from Smithville, Lathrop Middle School, Kearney High School, Fort Osage High School, and Wellington Napoleon showcased their skills in front of an electric cheering section. Huge shoutout to Smithville HS for being an outstanding Unified Champion School and making this event a success!
January 11 – State Bowling West
Our athletes hit the lanes for State Bowling West! Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this amazing event.

North Area – Coming up:
Come walk with us, St. Joe! Starting February 2nd, join our 1st walking Club at East Hills Mall on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at 4:00pm. It’s a great way to stay active, spend time together, and have fun!
Southwest Area – Coming up:
Wednesday, January 14th @ 4:30pm the Southwest area will be hosting Mindful Midweek. Come relax and get your body moving! There will be board games/card games, crafts, community involvement, and physical activities. This event will be held at the Southwest office.
Plunge season is underway! We have two plunges coming up in the Southwest Area! Both events are adding some new elements – don’t want to plunge in the cold water? Join us for the Polar Bear Strut 5K in Joplin and Springfield. We will see you there! February 7th – Joplin Polar Plunge; March 7th Springfield Polar Plunge.
Southeast Area – Coming up:
Our MO Magic Volleyball Team will be having a Cornhole Tournament Sunday, February 22nd to help raise money to get us to the Special Olympics USA Games this Summer! If you or anyone you know are interested in a Sponsorship or donating a raffle basket, please reach out to Coach Melody. Anyone interested in throwing some bags can scan the QR code to get registered early! We hope to see you there!
