Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from Feb. 7-13, 2023!

STL Metro SSD Challenge Day Basketball- Tuesday, Feb. 7

This basketball Challenge Day was hosted by Special School District at South Tech. Great job to all who participated!

Young Athlete Program- Wednesday, Feb. 8

Special Olympics Young Athletes is an early childhood play program for children with and without intellectual disabilities, ages two to seven. Young Athletes introduces basic sport skills, like running, kicking and throwing. Young Athletes offers families, teachers, caregivers and community members the chance to share the joy of sports with all children.

TLC Fitness Classes- Thursday, Feb. 9

Last Thursday we had another great day of fitness classes at TLC! If you missed this week’s classes, check our calendar for upcoming classes. These workouts are a great way to get moving and stay fit!

Want to earn some awesome prizes? Participants who attend the following classes will receive the following:

5 Classes – Water Bottle
10 Classes – Yoga Mat
15 Classes – T-Shirt

STL Metro SSD Basketball Tournament- Friday, Feb. 10

This basketball tournament was hosted from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. by Special School District at Riverview Gardens. Great job to all who participated!

Festus Unified Basketball- Friday, Feb. 10

Festus school district put on another great unified event! It was a fun afternoon of basketball where students of all abilities competed and played together with fans cheering from the sidelines. The high school jazz band and cheerleaders were also part of the day’s event.

Chillicothe Polar Plunge- Saturday, Feb. 11

Polar plunge season continues! Chillicothe hosted the third plunge of the year last Saturday. Shoutout to all the brave Plungers who took on the cold for a good cause! Stay tuned for the results from this Plunge coming soon.

East Regional Basketball Tournament- Saturday, Feb. 11

The East Basketball Regional Tournament was held in Jefferson City, MO this past weekend! Over 700 athletes and 60 unified partners joined in on the fun. It was a busy and exciting day at the Training for Life Campus (TLC) and other locations across Jefferson City that hosted games! Great job to all the talented athletes that played!

TLC also hosted the Healthy Athletes program as part of the tournament. This Special Olympics program provides free health screenings and health education in a fun, welcoming environment!
