North Area – The Chillicothe Plunge was held on Saturday, and it was a fantastic success! We were lucky to have beautiful weather—especially for February—which made the day even more enjoyable. The energy was high, and our community showed up in a big way to support our athletes.

Thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and volunteered, we raised an incredible $4,600. These funds will directly support our amazing athletes and help provide them with more opportunities to train and compete. We are so grateful for the support!

St. Louis Metro Area – We’re excited to bring athletes from our local basketball and cheer teams to Missouri Baptist University this Wednesday evening for a Special Olympics showcase; please see the attached graphic

Central Area – We hosted the Central Area Basketball Tournament on Saturday in Boonville, bringing together 18 teams for a day of competition, teamwork, and fun.

Athletes took them to the court ready to play and give their best effort. Throughout the day, teams demonstrated strong skills, determination, and great sportsmanship. The energy in the gym reflected the excitement of friendly competition and the joy of being part of something bigger than the game itself.

The tournament provided an opportunity for athletes to challenge themselves, support one another, and celebrate their accomplishments. It was a great day of basketball and a meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Southeast Area – On Saturday, February 7th, the Southeast area had their 20th Annual Polar Plunge at Cape County Park North. 150 people took the Plunge that day, raising over $60,000 for the athletes in the Southeast area.
We celebrated the success at the post plunge party immediately following at the Osage Centre.

KC Metro Area February 3 – Train 4 Life in Grain Valley

Tuesday brought energy, smiles, and a whole lot of determination at Train 4 Life in Grain Valley.
Athletes spent time building confidence, connecting with peers, and developing lifelong wellness skills. The enthusiasm was contagious and seeing athletes push themselves and cheer each other on was the perfect reminder of why these programs matter.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who helped make this event successful!

February 6 – Speaking at Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary

We wrapped up the week bright and early with a presentation at the Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club.
It was a wonderful opportunity to share SOMO’s mission, highlight local athlete accomplishments, and explore ways to partner in strengthening inclusive opportunities here in the KC Metro area. We’re grateful for their warm welcome and commitment to community service.

Thank You, KC Metro Community

From athlete development to community partnerships, this week showcased the best of what makes SOMO so special.
Here’s to continuing the momentum and creating even more opportunities for our athletes to shine!
