Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from Dec. 5-11, 2023!

Training for Life Campus (TLC) Weekly Events and Classes: Dec. 5-8

Last week at the Training for Life Campus was full of fun and learning, setting the tone for another week of exciting events. In Music Class, athletes explored a variety of skills through singing and instrument play. The Holiday Hustle program is in full swing, offering tailored group sessions with rewards for attendance. Wednesdays bring the cozy and welcoming Buddy Club, featuring coffee, hot chocolate, and friendly games. Fridays are reserved for Open Gym Fun, allowing registered athletes and groups to enjoy the arena. The specially designed Workout Class for individuals with disabilities continues to be a hit, offering invigorating low-impact stretches. Thursdays are all about unleashing creativity in Art Class.

The Training for Life Campus invites both regulars and newcomers to join this vibrant community for a week filled with exciting events and learning opportunities. Whether it’s music, fitness, or creativity, there’s a place for everyone at the Training for Life Campus.

Christmas Carols at the Capitol Tree Lighting: Wednesday, Dec. 6

Thank you so much to Gov. Parson for inviting us to sing Christmas carols and help you light this year’s Capitol Christmas tree! Our Young Athletes from the Special Learning Center had a blast!

Southwest Area Bowling: Thursday, Dec. 7

Strikes, spares, and heartwarming moments at the Southwest Area Bowling Tournament on Dec. 7! 🌟 A special shoutout to the amazing Kevin Southern, who stepped in last second to help with awards for 150 bowlers, all while cheering on his own champion!

Norm Stewart Classic: Thursday, Dec. 7

Two SOMO Unified basketball teams had the opportunity to kick off the 2023 Norm Stewart Classic on Thursday, Dec. 7. Tipton’s Unified basketball team played 3-on-3 against Camdenton’s Unified basketball team in an exhibition matchup. After the game, all the players had the chance to meet Norm Stewart. It was a great day!

Owensville Local Bowling Tournament: Friday, Dec. 8

At the Owensville bowling tournament hosted at Thunder Alley on Friday, athletes showcased outstanding performances, demonstrating exceptional skill and sportsmanship. The event was marked by impressive displays of talent and camaraderie, making it a memorable and successful competition for all participants.

Southwest Area Bowling: Friday, Dec. 8

Fourth Street Bowl hosted another Southwest Area Bowling Tournament on Friday, Dec. 8. Fantastic job to all the athletes who participated!

KC Metro Winter Bash Celebration: Saturday, Dec. 9

The KC Metro Winter Bash Celebration was a great night where people gathered for an evening filled with delicious food, refreshing drinks, vibrant music, and an array of exciting activities. Attendees added to the festive atmosphere by wearing their favorite Christmas attire or holiday best, creating a lively and spirited ambiance that made the event truly memorable.

Christmas Dance at TLC: Saturday, Dec. 9

The Christmas Dance at TLC, hosted by SOMO and United Cerebral Palsy, was a heartwarming celebration that brought joy and festivity to all who attended. The dance floor at TLC was alive with the spirit of the season as friends and families gathered for a memorable evening of music, laughter, and holiday cheer. Everyone looked fabulous in their Christmas attire, making it a night to remember, filled with warmth and community spirit.

K-State Mizzou Women’s Basketball Game: Saturday, Dec. 9

We had so much fun at the Mizzou women’s basketball game against Kansas State in St. Joseph on Dec. 9. During the game, SOMO ran a 50/50 raffle with proceeds benefiting SOMO Athletes! Thank you to everyone who participated and supported SOMO!

Chili Bingo Night: Sunday, Dec. 10

Last Sunday, the Knights of Columbus Hall in St. Joseph transformed into a hub of excitement and warmth for Chili Bingo Night, and what a success it was! The doors swung open at 4:00 p.m., welcoming eager participants ready for an evening of fun. Bingo kicked off at 5:30 p.m., bringing together the community for a night filled with laughter, camaraderie, and, of course, fantastic prizes for everyone. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!

Warrensburg Local Bowling Tournament: Monday, Dec. 11

The Union Bowling Center hosted the Warrensburg Local Bowling Tournament on Monday, Dec. 11. Great job to all the athletes who participated!
