SOMO Sum Ups: August 5-11
Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events that took place this week!
KC Metro/ North Area Golf: Wednesday, August 6
On August 6, athletes gathered at Fred Arbanas Golf Course for the KC Metro and North Area Golf event. Participants showed great sportsmanship and skill throughout the afternoon. Great job to all the athletes who took part in this fun and competitive day!
State Pickleball: Saturday, August 9
The State Pickleball event was held on August 9 at the Columbia Sports Fieldhouse. Athletes competed in exciting matches from morning until evening, demonstrating determination and teamwork. Congratulations to everyone who participated and made the event a success! A big thank you to the volunteers who helped make this event possible! More photos will be uploaded to our Flickr soon!
Bambino Buddy Ballgame hosted by Babe Ruth League: Thursday, August 7
What an amazing night it was at the Bambino Buddy Ball Game at the Cal Ripken Little League World Series in Branson, MO. This year’s game was played at the beginning of the tournament as part of the Opening Ceremonies. Ball players from all over the world cheered on Special Olympics Missouri athletes and played side by side with them on the field.
Missouri State Fair Cover the Cruiser: Saturday, August 9
On August 9, Special Olympics Missouri joined the Missouri State Fair to host the Cover the Cruiser event. Attendees wrote positive notes of thanks and encouragement on post-its to cover law enforcement and firefighter vehicles. Representatives from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Missouri State Fair Fire Department were present in front of the MEC Building, creating a meaningful display of gratitude. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to show support and spread positivity!
