SOMO Sum Ups: August 13-19
Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from August 13-19, 2024!
TLC Classes & Strive for Strength
Training for Life Campus (TLC) continued it weekly classes and events this week! Strive for Strength also took place this week, a Strive for Strength is a program that includes weekly self-led challenges at home as well as in-person sessions at the TLC. The program began on August 5, 2024, with a challenge released every Monday at 12 PM for 10 weeks. Prizes can be earned for those participating. Shoutout to all athletes who have participated so far!
Wentzville Tip-A-Cop: Thursday, August 15
The Wentzville Tip-A-Cop event on August 15 was a fantastic evening where officers from the Wentzville PD traded in their handcuffs for aprons to serve guests at Texas Roadhouse. From 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm, the officers took on the role of servers, engaging with the community and raising funds for a great cause.
Dunkin’ Cop on a Rooftop: Friday, August 16
Dunkin’ Cop on a Rooftop, held on August 16 from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm, was a remarkable success, bringing together communities across Missouri to support Special Olympics athletes. We raised $9,785 from our 8 locations! Law enforcement agencies, including Arnold PD, Bridgeton PD, Festus PD, O’Fallon PD, St. Charles Co PD, Overland PD, St. Charles PD, St. Charles Co Sheriff’s Dept., and St. Louis Co PD, joined forces for this unique fundraising event as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Officers greeted participants from rooftops, raising both awareness and funds. The event was filled with community spirit and generous support, making a meaningful impact for SOMO.
Jimmie’s Miles for Medals Dice Run: Saturday, August 17
Jimmie’s Miles for Medals Dice Run was held on August 17 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at Outlaw Harley Davidson. Riders came together for a scenic motorcycle ride, all in support of Special Olympics KC Metro teams. Organized by the Special Olympics Missouri Fan Clubs of Kansas City, the fundraiser was a resounding success, helping to raise essential funds for uniforms, equipment, practice space rentals, transportation, and enthusiastic fan support for the athletes. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!
St. Louis Metro Area Tennis Tournament: Sunday, August 18
The St. Louis Metro Area Tennis Tournament was held on August 18 at Clayton Shaw Park Tennis Courts. From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Pony Bird and Southwest County teams were on hand to compete. There was some amazing tennis played and the weather was great!
