Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events that took place this week!

Southwest Area Soccer Clinic: Tuesday, August 12

What a fun day it was at the SW Area Soccer Clinic at Lake Country Soccer Indoor Soccer Facility! Athletes of all ages had the opportunity to learn new soccer skills and scrimmage against each other. Jesse even hopped in as goalie, and Haley may have scored on him twice! Great job to everyone who participated.

Cardio Drumming Club-KC Metro: Tuesday, August 12

Night one of Cardio Drumming at the SOMO KC Office was a huge success! Athletes brought the beats, the moves, and plenty of energy. From big smiles to some awesome dance steps, the first cardio drumming night was a blast. Special thanks to our instructor Kim and our cameraman, Allen, for making the night so much fun.

Inclusive Bouldering Event: Wednesday, August 13

Athletes had an incredible time at our Inclusive Bouldering Clinic at Rendezvous Climbing Gym in Leawood, KS. Their determination, skill, and spirit shined with every climb. Huge thanks to Rendezvous Climbing Gym, their staff, and volunteers for hosting and supporting this event.

St. Louis Metro Area Tennis Tournament: Friday, August 15

Athletes hit the courts at Clayton Shaw Park for the St. Louis Metro Area Tennis Tournament. Coaches and athletes battled the heat on Friday evening to compete in Singles and Doubles tennis, but the spirit of the game persevered and the night saw some great match-ups! Thank you to the Southwest County and Pony Bird teams for attending, competing, and assisting in volunteer spots!

Jimmie’s Miles for Medals: Saturday, August 16

The KC Metro community came together for Jimmie’s Miles for Medals Dice Run, a motorcycle ride benefiting Special Olympics KC Metro teams. Hosted by the Special Olympics Missouri Fan Clubs of Kansas City, this fundraiser supported uniforms, equipment, practice space, transportation, and, of course, fans in the stands. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event such a success!

North Area Bocce: Saturday, August 16

Athletes gathered at West Platte R II School District for the North Area Bocce competition. Great job to all who competed!

Southwest Area Bocce Ball: Saturday, August 16

Southwest Area Bocce Ball was an amazing day! Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to make this event happen, we couldn’t have done it without you! Also, a huge thank you to Allison Sports Town for hosting us INDOORS and in the air conditioning on this scorching hot August day, and for the wonderful lunches! One more huge thank you to Plumb Supply Company of Springfield for all the PVC pipes to build our courts! And finally, thank you to all of our athletes and coaches for coming out and doing such an amazing job today and all season long!

SOMO Craft Club-KC Metro: Monday, August 18

Our very first SOMO Craft Club is in the books and WOW, the creativity was off the charts! From paint-splattered masterpieces to one-of-a-kind designs, our athletes brought their imagination to life in the best way. Big smiles, lots of laughs, and plenty of color made for the perfect kickoff. We can’t wait to see what they dream up next time!
