Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from August 29- September 4, 2023.

Training for Life Campus Music Class: Tuesday, August 29

During our music class, groups may sing, play instruments or listen to music. They can also discuss the meaning of the lyrics. This class will provide a wide variety of different coping skills, including breathing techniques, rhythmic grounding and relaxation.  Check out our calendar to see upcoming music class opportunities!

Training for Life Campus Open Gym: August 29, 30, 31 and September 1

The Training for Life Campus is still holding Open Gym sessions! We are open from 1-3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays for open play. This is for registered athletes only or pre-approved groups. Shout out to all the athletes who came out this week to have some fun and come visit us next week if you haven’t already!

First early-bird drawing for the Drive it Home Raffle: Thursday, August 31

The 2023 Drive it Home Raffle is off and running! Congratulations to our first two Drive it Home Raffle winners, Curt Backhaus and Betty Lynne-Akre. These first winners both won $2,500! The next early-bird deadline is on Oct. 1. If you buy a Drive it Home Raffle ticket before Oct. 1, you’re automatically entered into the next early-bird drawing!

Training for Life Campus Workout Class: Thursday, August 31

This exercise class is designed especially for people with disabilities and is structured to make you feel better and have more energy with low-impact stretches. Check out our calendar for more opportunities like this or contact Craig Hall at hall@somo.org.

LETR Days at Schucks: Saturday, September 2

Our Law Enforcement friends and several athletes across the state raised money for SOMO for the second weekend in a row at different Schucks locations! Thank you to everyone who helped make this fundraiser possible.

Renaissance Festival: Monday, September 4

SOMO partnered with the KC Renaissance Festival for its 46th festival by working a booth selling and serving food!  If you would like to get involved, there are future opportunities all through September and October.  Costumes are provided by the festival, and you will be asked to “play the part” by using medieval terms, wearing the costume, etc. Click here to get involved.
