Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from August 15-21, 2023.

Training for Life Campus Open Gym: August 15, 16, 18, 19

The Training for Life Campus Open Gym sessions are still in full swing! We are open from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday’s for open play. This is for registered athletes only or pre-approved groups. Come visit us and have some fun!

New Southwest Area Office: August 14-18

SOMO officially moved into its new Southwest Area office this past week! We are so excited to be at 3524 S National Springfield, MO 65807! Come visit us some time!

KC Metro Day at the K: August 17

SOMO’s KC Metro athletes and coaches spent a Day at the K on August 17! They cheered on the Royals while hanging out with our awesome SOMO family.

Training for Life Campus Workout Class: August 17

This exercise class is designed especially for people with Disabilities and is structured to make you feel better and have more energy with low-impact stretches. Check out our calendar for more opportunities like this or contact Craig Hall at hall@somo.org.

North Area Family Night Out: August 17

Athletes, parents, and volunteers gathered Thursday evening from 4-8 p.m. and learned to line dance, shopped for Christmas, met Charlie Phillips and enjoyed some food from Vogel’s and Ice Cream from the Scoop Skool Bus. Thank you so much to everyone to helped make this event possible!

STLM Area Golf Tournament: August 18

This golf tournament took place at Country Lake Golf Club from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Amazing job to all the athletes that participated.

Jimmie’s Miles for Medals: August 19

Jimmie’s Miles for Medals Dice Run is a motorcycle ride benefiting Special Olympics KC Metro teams. This is a fundraiser run by the Special Olympics Missouri Fan Clubs of Kansas City. These Fan Clubs go above and beyond to help support the teams by raising funds for new uniforms, new equipment, rental of practice space, transportation to and from competitions and, of course, providing fans in the stands to cheer the athletes on!
