SOMO Sum Ups: April 25- May 1
Here’s a look back at all of the amazing Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) events from April 25-May 1, 2023! It was a busy week!
Southwest Area Track & Field- Wednesday, April 26
A busy week of track and field kicked off at Clever High School with the Southwest Area Track and Field Meet. Opening Ceremonies were at 9:15 a.m. and games begin at 9:30 a.m. The day concluded with final events at 1:30 p.m. Amazing job to all the athletes that participated in this event!
Young Athlete Program- Wednesday, April 26
Another great week of this re-occurring program! Special Olympics Young Athletes is an early childhood play program for children with and without intellectual disabilities, ages two to seven. Young Athletes introduces basic sport skills, like running, kicking and throwing. Young Athletes offers families, teachers, caregivers and community members the chance to share the joy of sports with all children.

North Area Aquatics Meet – Wednesday, April 26
The North Area Aquatics Meet was hosted at Thomas Eagleton Indoor Pool. Great job to all the athletes that competed last Wednesday!
STL Metro SSD Track and Field Meet- Wednesday, April 26
Special School District at McCluer North High School hosted a Track and Field Meet this past Wednesday! Fantastic job to all the athletes that came out and competed!
NFL Draft Day Experience- Wednesday, April 26
A group of our SOMO athletes had the amazing opportunity to experience The NFL Draft Day Experience consisting of football skills and drills clinic led by USA football coaches as well as a community service project for SOMO athletes and Unified partners!
On Saturday, SOMO athlete Richard Scott also had the opportunity to co-announce a pick on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft!

KC Metro Pickleball Clinic- Wednesday, April 26
Last week was the last Pickleball Clinic of our 6-Week program that started in March! The clinic emphasized foundational skills and took place Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m., March 22 to April 26.

Warrensburg Local Track Meet- Thursday, April 27
Warrensburg hosted a local track meet last Thursday. Nice job to all the athletes that competed!
STL Metro SSD Track and Field Meet- Friday, April 28
Another great unified track and field meet hosted by Special School District at Hazelwood West High School. Shoutout to all the athletes who came out to run and compete on Friday!
Poplar Bluff Spring Games- Friday, April 28
The Spring Games in Poplar Bluff were a huge success! Thank you to all the volunteers and law enforcement who helped make this event possible.
Southwest Area Track & Field- Friday, April 28
Our Southwest Area athletes ran into the weekend with an area track meet at Carl Junction High School! Great job to all the amazing athletes who participated!
North Area Track Meet (Savannah, MO)- Saturday, April 29
Savannah Middle School hosted the North Area Track Meet this past weekend. Great job to all the talented athletes that came out and competed!
KC Metro Area Spring Games Track & Field Meet- Saturday, April 29
Lee Summit North High School hosted this track and field meet this past Saturday. Check out these great pictures of our SOMO athletes!
St. Louis Metro Area Spring Games- Saturday, April 29
To wrap up a week full of amazing track and field, Westminster Christian Academy hosted the St. Louis Metro Area Spring Games! Fantastic job to all the athletes that competed!
Kirksville Pickleball Clinic- Saturday, April 29
Kirksville YMCA hosted this pickleball clinic last week! Shout out to camp clinician Daniel Thompson for hosting the clinic and to pickleball commissioners Aiden Petterson and Ken Petterson for instructing!

Southeast Area Soccer Clinic with SEMO Redhawks Soccer Team- Saturday, April 29
This free soccer clinic was in conjunction with the SEMO Lady Redhawks Soccer Team at the Cape Girardeau Sportsplex! Southeast Area athletes learned the fundamentals of soccer from skilled clinicians and had a blast in a fantastic facility!
Southwest Area Volleyball- Sunday, April 30
Missouri State University hosted this volleyball tournament at the Foster Recreation Center! Warm-up and practice started at 11 a.m. and the first game began at 11:30 a.m. Great job to all of our SOMO volleyball athletes that competed!
2023 Central Area Aquatics- Sunday, April 30
To wrap up a busy week of SOMO sports, Hickman High School hosted the Central Area Aquatics Meet on Sunday! Nice job to all the swimmers who came out and participated in this great swim meet!
