Marquette High School Celebrates National Banner Recognition as a Unified Champion School
Jefferson City – Marquette High School recently celebrated its official recognition as a National Banner Unified Champion School, a prestigious honor awarded by Special Olympics North America. This designation is given to schools that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to inclusion through Unified sports and activities, inclusive youth leadership, and whole-school engagement.
Marquette High School became just the sixth school in Missouri to receive this distinction, underscoring its dedication to creating an environment where students with and without intellectual disabilities build impactful, ongoing interpersonal relationships.
To mark the occasion, the school hosted a high-energy pep rally on February 20, where students, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate. The gymnasium was filled with school spirit as attendees recognized the efforts that earned Marquette this honor. The event also featured a Unified basketball game, showcasing the power of inclusion through sports.
In addition to receiving National Banner recognition, Marquette was also named an ESPN Honor Roll Unified Champion School, a distinction that places them among the top Unified schools in the country.
“Marquette High School has set an incredible example of what it means to be a truly inclusive school,” said Ben Johnson, Unified Champion School Manager. “Their commitment to fostering an environment where everyone belongs is inspiring, and we are thrilled to celebrate their success.”
Special Olympics Missouri applauds Marquette High School for its leadership in promoting inclusion and looks forward to seeing its Unified programming continue to thrive.
