Carrollton High School hosts Unified track meet

Carrollton High School Unified Local Track Meet

CARROLLTON – Carrollton High School was the place to be on Friday, Sept. 30! Five school districts across two different Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) areas (North and Central) came together for a Unified track meet.

In total – 35 athletes and eight young athletes from Carrollton, Chillicothe, Hale, Holden and Braymer participated in the event.

The morning started with the Opening Ceremony, including the Parade of Athletes. The Carrollton cheer team, band and choir all performed as well.

The athletes competed in the following sports:

  • 10 meter assisted walk
  • 25 meter walk
  • 25 meter assisted walk
  • 25 meter run
  • 25 meter wheelchair race
  • 50 meter walk
  • 50 meter run
  • 50 meter wheelchair race
  • 100 meter run
  • 4×100 meter relay
  • Running long jump
  • Standing long jump
  • Softball throw
  • T-ball throw

Student volunteers, including student council members, football players and cheerleaders lead each of the competition stations. They actively supported the athletes throughout the day.

Between competitions, the athletes had a chance to receive balloon art.  

Key Club members and the Carrollton art teacher also painted some of the athletes’ faces. 

The awards were given by the one and only KC Slugerrr!
