1st Annual Tailgates and Touchdowns: A Unified Victory
Rain may have changed our plans, but it didn’t dampen the spirit of the 1st Annual Tailgates and Touchdowns event! Originally planned as an outdoor event, we adapted to the weather by moving indoors and playing basketball instead. The energy and camaraderie remained just as strong, making the day a true celebration of unity and teamwork.
Our Health Messengers, Abby and Joe, stepped up to host a hydration station, educating participants on the importance of staying hydrated during sports and everyday activities. Their leadership added an invaluable touch to the event, emphasizing wellness as a key part of athletic success.
Athletes from the Jefferson City Stars and Warrenton Bulldogs joined forces with SOMO partners to compete alongside community teams, including the Jefferson City Police Department, Fulton Fire Department, and Jefferson City Chamber’s Young Professionals. The competition was fierce but fun, with the Jefferson City Police Department taking home the tournament trophy!
Watching the teams work directly with our athletes in a unified setting was the highlight of the day. For many participants, this was their first time serving as unified partners, and they took to it like naturals. The experience not only fostered collaboration but also built bridges between community members and our athletes.
Hosting the event at the Training for Life Campus (TLC) was a major win. The facility not only provided a great space to pivot to an indoor event but also helped raise awareness about the incredible programs and opportunities available at the TLC.
As we look ahead, the Tailgates and Touchdowns event promises to become a staple in our community calendar. We’re already planning next year’s event, and we’re confident it will be even bigger and better!
Stay tuned for the trophy ceremony, where we’ll engrave and officially present the winning trophy to the Jefferson City Police Department.
Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and cheered us on. It was an incredible day, and we can’t wait to see how this event grows in the years to come!
