VISION:
Remain a premier Special Olympics program worldwide and become a charity of choice in Missouri.

MAXIMIZE RESOURCES FOR TODAY, TOMORROW AND BEYOND

  • Increase and enhance partnerships.

  • Enhance signature events.
  • Support the Training for Life Capital Campaign.

  • Utilize technology to maximize resources.

DEVELOP QUALITY & INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS
  • Implement Young Athletes Program in every area.

  • Develop a retention plan by utilizing a Lifetime Athlete Program.

  • Ensure growth and succession of coaches and other key volunteers relative to increasing programs.

COMMUNICATE RELEVANCE

  • Engage and empower youth.
  • Celebrate milestone events of the 25th Law Enforcement Torch Run® (2010) and Special Olympics Missouri 40th Anniversary (2011).

  • Increase Top-of-Mind Awareness.

ORGANIZATIONAL INTEGRITY

  • Recruit and retain volunteer leaders according to functional needs.
  • Ensure professional staff development for continued retention.

  • Implement Special Olympics Missouri Safe Standards organization wide.
     

2010 STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

 

MAXIMIZE RESOURCES FOR TODAY, TOMORROW AND BEYOND

  • Develop a master list of current and potential partnerships by functional area at 2010 Leadership Conference and develop a strategy for approach.

  • Review partnership strategy and achievements on a semi-annual basis. 

  • Provide a list of at least five family members/fans who are not coaches (per Area); from this list at least one person will be recruited and trained to be the Fan Club Trainer for the Area.

  • Increase the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge net revenues in 2010 over the 2009 actuals by 10% per plunge. 

  • Grow each Over the Edge event net revenues in 2010 over the 2009 actual by 10% per event. 

  • Board of Directors to be actively involved in all signature events.

  • Train, equip and oversee Team Missouri through 2010 National Games.

  • Develop a plan to incorporate Training for Life Camps (including Healthy Athletes screenings) into existing programming.

  • Launch “quiet phase” of Training for Life Campus Capital Campaign by hosting cultivation events.

  • Develop an on-line system for games registration for Area and State games. 

  • Utilize an on-line system for collection of coaches’ hours to increase the hours collected by 3% over 2009.       

  • Develop integrated social media strategy to include tools for measurement.  

  • Increase “My SOMO” online community members to 4,000. 

  • Analyze efficiency of revenue processing and implement appropriate changes. 

  • Determine feasibility of having an integrated multi-channel fundraising strategy based on Special Olympics Inc. study and develop a plan, as appropriate. 

  • Increase overall Polar Plunge revenues raised on-line from 38% to 50%. 

DEVELOP QUALITY & INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS

  • Implement a minimum of an eight-week Young Athlete Program in each area hosted by students with and without mental disabilities within the school environment.

  • Maintain net athlete numbers at or above previous year actual.

  • Implement plan to transition athletes leaving Special School District to the St Louis Metro Area.

  • Create a task force to develop a formal Lifetime Athlete Program Plan. 

COMMUNICATE RELEVANCE

  • Create one new youth project (R word, Fans in the Stands) per area in a school which has a current Special Olympics program.

  • Add a youth representative to each state Games Management Team, Leadership Conference, Polar Plunge and Sports Camp.

  • Celebrate the 25th Law Enforcement Torch Run to include previous and current leadership.

  • Plan the Special Olympics Missouri 40th Anniversary celebration to include a funding opportunity.

  • Analyze current location of area and district events (competition and fundraising) to determine possible rotation plan given funding potential, visibility, athlete numbers and available facilities.

  • Implement SCORE mission program on grassroots level.

ORGANIZATIONAL INTEGRITY

  • Discuss and develop annually at the April Board Retreat the functional needs for membership of the board of directors and recruit appropriate candidates.

  • Offer training for staff on social networking and mental disabilities.

  • Implement Photo ID policy to ensure every athlete competing at a state event has a Photo ID.

  • Implement Incident Command System (ICS) organization-wide to include a state event simulation.

  • Review and implement Special Olympics Missouri Safe Standards with organizing committees for State Games, Polar Plunges and Over the Edge Events.
